ENGLISH MURDER.

A Savage Crime. LONDON, Feb. 22. A man named Stratton was arrested by the police for the murder of Miss Daisy Mayes, a pretty brunette, aged 25 years, who, carrying a music case, was found dying on the door of a second class compartment of a train on the North London Bailway at Daiston. lie: head was injured, and there was a knife wound on her throat. She died on the platform. On being charged, Stratton was remanded. The girl had twenty-four wounds.

The police gave evidence that he made the statement: “I was determined, if I couldu’t have her that nobody else would. I had been waiting for a favourable opportunity to do her in. After an argument in the train, I pulled out a piece of iron from my pocket, and struck her on the head, and then stabbed her with a knife.”
