Carr, son of Archdeacon Carr, has completed his examination for his ALA. degree with second class honours in English. Rev. Father Jas. Lennon, of Gore, Otago, arrived here yesterday on a holiday’ visit, and is a guest at St. Patrick’s Presbytery. Air Dave Hazeldine, of the Greymouth Telegraphic Staff, who has been absent on holiday, returned by the express yesterday. Alessrs K. Williams and W. L. Patterson notify’ the closing of their bus iness premises to morrow afternoon on the occasion of People’s Day at the A. and P. Show. The death of Dr. (’. W. Afonson i.s recorded at Lewisham Hospital, Sydney. He formerly was in practice at several West Coast towns. He leaves a wife and a young family’. Bishop Brodie, and Rev. Brother Justin, Provincial of the Marist Order in N.Z., who have been attending the Greymouth celebrations in connection with the Marist Bros. Jubilee, left this morning for Christchurch. Air and Mrs A. Burrowes, late ot South West land ami Sheffield, Canterbury, are nt present on a holiday’ visit to Greymouth, and are the guests of Mr and Mrs A. S. Robertson, Palmerston St reel. Rev. Father Galerne, for many years the popular pastor of the Reefton Catholic congregation, who has recently* returned from a visit to France, arrived last evening in Greymouth, and to-day proceeds to Reef ton. A Wellington wire states that the following announcement was issued from Governnrrnt House last night: — ••Her Excellency, Lady* Alice Fergus son, who has Ik'cii iiotisposed since last ..c-k. is making good progress towards recovery, but is unable for the present io make any public engagements.” A Wellington wire states Captain E. P. O. Boyle, Military Secretary, to the Governor-General, left yesterday by* the Niagara for Suva, where he will join ILALS. Renown. Captain Boyle will be attached to the stall of their Royal Highnesses during their visit to New Zealand. Air Frank Finnelli, shiftman at the Blackball mine, is at present undergoing treatment at the Grey River Hospital for a serious injury’ to his eyes :is the result of a recent accident, at the mine. Air Finelli was cutting some wire rope, when some of the strands flew back, striking him across the eyes, with the result that both were injured, and one so severely that it is yet uncertain whether he will recover the use of it.
