SURFERS RESCUED.
ON DUNEDIN BEACH. DUNEDIN, Feb. 14. There were two narrow escapes from crowning at St. Clair Beach yesterday. The life saving team was having a practice run when the “patient” took crarxp and drifted some distance to the sea. Two reels were quickly brougt into play and after a hard struggle he was brought ashore, where he recovered. Immediately after, the alarm was again raised, and it soon became obvious that the case was urgent, as the drowning person was drifting* rapidly out with the tide. McLean, a High School boy, and a junior member of the Life Saving team, quickly went to his assistance; he reached the man, keeping him rfloat until the senior Life Saying te mi had manned a reel. By tl'is time the man was nearly unconscious, but after a quick pull in, resuscitation was resorted to and medical assistance restored consciousness.
