He stated that, at a moment when it ,was abundantly clear ■ that Britain’s liie as an exporting nation depended, upon the Empire, the South African premier, Mr Hertzog, had made a claim for an independent iia-| tion;il status for Soutn Africa, vvliieh, if granted, would, he said, mean the dissolution of the Empire.
