BOXER DISQUALIFIED.

L. ROBINSON V. VERCOE. LATTER’S BAD LUCK. BLENHEIM, Oct. 28. Lin. Robinson (9.0) of Gisborne, the holder, defeated Dick Vereoe (8.13{), of Marlborough, the challenger, in a .15 rounds bout for the professional featherweight boxing championship of New Zealand and a purse of one hundred guineas. Vereoe seemed slow in the first round, and kept dodging round the ring. The champion, meanwhile, was steadily mounting up points, especially when at close quarters. Robinson won practically every round, hit ting cleanly, and showing a sound defence. In the third round both men tripped and fell. There was not much incident till the eighth round, which was willing, the men exchanging blow for blow. There was some wild hitting, but Robinson continued to score with right and left swings.

Vereoe livened up in rhe tenth an 1 ! eleventh, which saw the fastest exchange of the contest. The champion scored more freely in both the in and out-fighting, but apparently he swung of his balance in a clinch, ami he went to the mat for a count of f >ur. Vereoe was the aggressor in the twelfth and he commenced swinging lii> left to head and body, and seeking ::n opening for a knock-out. The cham pion was slowing down. Vereoe clinched in a corner, and when the referee ordered a break, the challenger struck a. blow which landed on Robinson’s a••])!. The referee ordered, the men to their corners, ami disqualified Vereoe, and awarded the fight to Robinson. To-night there was a ten-rounds professional boxing contest between Jack Heeney (Gisborne) and Al. McDonald (Queensland). Tt resulted in a win for Heeney on points, after a vigorous display.
