S.S. KAITUNA.
STRANDED LAST NIGHT. At Tauranga. AUCKLAND. October 13. Advice has been received that the Union Company’s steamer Kaituna, bound from Gisborne to Tauranga, went ashore at the entrance to Tauranga Harbour, bewecn Jive and six tonight. The tide had turned an hour before, and it was coming in. It is hoped the vessel might float oft' at high tide. X' iptain Anderson, the Union Coy.’> superintendent, left for Tau-I y ianga by the Matangi to-night to in- \ vestigate. I Communication by wireless is impos\ible, owing to the Kaituna’s wireless being out of order. If the vessel does not float out with the tide, the Matangi will attempt to tow her oft’. Her exact position has not yet been definitely ascertained, but it is thought she is on a steep beach of hard sand. Vessel Gets Off. AT TOP OF TIDE. AUCKLAND, October 13. At 11.45 p.m. word was received from Tauranga that the Kaituna, which had been stranded on the middle bank at the entrance of the harbour, came off at high tide, shortly after 11 o ’clock. She does not appear to have suffered much damage.
