Mr F. G. Cooper left for Auckland yesterday morning.

Mr. Thomas Rochford a well-known resident of Dillmans; has been admitted to the. 7 Westland Hospital with a severe attack of peritonitis, and his condition last was reported to be critical.

Mr. F. Bennett is at present visiting Greymouth and last evening took part in the Male Choir’s concert.

Mr. P. N. Kingswell left by the express yesterday morning for Auckland.

Mrs J. P. Riordan loft by yesterday’s express on a visit to Christchurch.

The Rev. Father Ginisty, of Reefton, passed through Greyjnouth from Christchurch yesterday.

Mr. J. Steer, Chairman of the Harbour Board left for Nelson and Takaka yesterday morning and is expected to be away about a fortnight.

Mr. J. W. Smith, of the P. and T. Department left for Christchurch yesterday on holiday leave.

Mr. A. G. Sime, of Westport, will be taking part in the New Zealand Amateur Golf Championships at Wellington.

Anxiety is expressed on account of Scrgt-Major J. E. Coadweel, of the Greymoutli Salvation Army, on account of his serious illness.

A vicious circle was the by which one of those present at the meeting of the Brighter Greymouth Comniittee yesterday afternoon described the practice of delaying the commencement of a meeting until a few more came to swell the numbers present. It was the custom in Greymouth, he said, to wait for others past the appointed hour, and at the same time people came late because they knew the meeting would not be started promptly. This state of affairs was deprecated because of the waste of time entailed.

At Monday’s meeting o f Brighter Greymouth Lodge, T.0.0.F. N.Z. in the Druids’ Hall, several new members were initiated, and three new candidates were proposed. One member was reported on sick list. A communication from the School Jubilee Committee was received asking for the Lodge’s co-operation in the procession on 20th. inst., and suggesting that if participating, the Lodge should represent “New Zealand”. Bro 'G. D. Smart briefly explained the requirements. It was unanimously resolved that Brighter Greymouth Lodge should participate in the procession and represent “New Zealand.” It was evident the Brothers quickly grasped the appropriateness of the suggestion by their celerity in volunteering to assist with the display, and a band of willing Gladstone members under supervision, of Bro. W T. Ogilvie, combined with the town volunteers, (in charge of Bro. F. E. Stent, assures a representation worthy of the occasion and a credit to the enthusiasm of the new Lodge.
