ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. DUNEDIN, Oct. 12. John AV. Ashworth Chadwick, a middle aged man, who kept a bookseller’s shop near the Botanic Gardens, was admitted to the hospital at 1.30 p.m. today, suffering from a severe gash in tho throat, which is presumed to have been self-inflicted. VICE-REGAL VISIT TO OTAGO. DUNEDIN. Oct. 12. The A 7 ice-Regal Party visited Palmerston this morning, and inspected the District High School. After a civic reception they visited the new maternity home and attended luncheon in the Town Hall, leaving by car for AVaikouaiti where similar functions were held. The party left for Dunedin at 3.30, ’and were met on the outskirts of the city by a civic committee headed by the Mayor. They have no engagements this evening. To-morrow there will be a children’s display and a visit to Ross Home. In the evening, His Excellency will attend an important Alasonic function.
