The first word received from Pensacola (Florida) since communication was severed yesterday, reports docks and railway buildings are in ruins- , m i • A message from Grand Turk, Turk s Island (Bahamas) states that four thousand are homeless and immense property damage was caused in Turks and Caicua Islands as the result of the hurricane. News from Mobile states that a survey to-day after the nineteen hour’s battle with the hurricane, reveals property damage estimated at several hundred thousands, chiefly unroofed structures and water damage. Birmingham (Alabama) reports heavy properly damage and probable loss of life through the storm.

News from Miami states it is estimated that there are four hundred dead, and five thousand injured, and fifty’ missing, as the result of the hurricane which devastated an area of sixtv miles along the cast coast. News from New Orleans states that the tropical storm severed communication between Mobile and the outside world on Monday. Meagre reports indicated that there was no loss of life at Mobile, where extensive preparations were made for the storm. a s the result of the forecast by the Weather Bureau. It is believed that the damage is not serious.
