mknacl to public. DIUNKI.N MAN IN A CAR. PALMERSTON N., Sept. 22. Donald Mi-Lean, a labourer, 25 years of age, was charged at the Court this morning with being mtoxi caled while driving a motor car, and v. it h not being in possession of a driver’s license. Counsel entered a plea of guilty. Senior-Sergeant O‘Grady said that the case was rather a bad one. The constable who ellected the arrest had told him that McLean was careering along at the rate of 40 miles an hour. The car had zig-zag-ged all over Church Street and people had to get on to the footpaths pretty quickly. Counsel stated the defendant had Ijeen suffering from pleurisy and an injury to his back, lie was driving his brother-in-law’s car, but he had no right to be doing so. It had been ascertained That- McLe,an had only two drinks. After consuming t hem, he undoubtedly lost his head.

The Senior-Sergeant added that when McLean pulled up' outside a house in the street, he fell over tin side of th© car, and was discover' to be helplessly drunk. The Bench fined McLean £lO, o’ in default two months’ imprisonment on the charge of intoxication, and convicted him on the charge of driving without ii license and also, disquali firnl him from obtaining a license for a period of 12 months. An application for the suppression of his name was refused.
