HOKITIKA NOTE S
(Our Own Correspondent.) As a result of action being taken by th© Fisheries Department prohibiting the dumping of sawdust into the Hokitika River, two mills (one in Kokatahi and one in Lake Kanieri district) are at present being- equipped with sawdust destructors. During the past couple of evenings Jack Frost has made his appearance felt locally, the pictures and other entertainments having suffered a s a result most people preferring to remain at home by the fireside during such cold nights. Mr. and Mrs P. Noltln, of Oku.ra, who have been spending a holiday in Hokitika and Christchurch, returned to their home in the far south yesterday. •Mr. and Mrs L. Hills, of Wellington, and formerly of Hokitika, are at present visitors to this town. Mr. Joseph Burns, Supervisor of the Telegraph Branch of the local Post Office is at present on annual holidays. As a result of the cold frosty weather which we have experienced of late, the whole of the rivers along the Coast have dropped very low. Consequently some of the bar harbours have shoaled considerably.
