REEFTON NOTES.
(Our Own Correspondent). Owing to the poor attendance at the school, caused by the prevailing epidemic, the State School Committee decided to close the school as from Mon'day last, but expect to reopen it again to-morrow (Thursday). The many friends of Mrs Gilmer, ol VVaitahu, will regret to hear that she it seriously ill at present. Mrs 11. Wicken, who has been on an extended holiday in the North Island, returned on Saturday evening, being accompanied by her son, Dr L. Wicken and Mrs Wicken junr. The following nominations were received for the various offices in the Reef ton Jockey Club: — President, Mr E. W. Spencer; Vici President, Mr J. £>. Auld; Commie Messrs S Austin, J. Burley, W. F Brett, E. J. Conway, A. J. Chettle. J. M. Irving, F. Keating, 11. L. Morgan.. J. Pattersen, D. Panckhurst, F. Sea wright, A. G. Wells, P. Coghlan, J B. Discaciati, H. T. Crumpton: Audi tors, Messrs T. IL Lee and B. P. McMahon.
The marriage took place on Monday afternoon, at the residence of the bride’s sister (Mrs C. Willis) of Miss Violet Bone, third daughter of tin late Mr and Mrs W. Bone, Black’: Point, to Mr A. Parkinson, of the Reef ton Railway staff. The Rev ( Robinson was the officiating Minister The bride wore an ensemble suit ( mastic repp, with mauve shaded hat and looked extremely’ handsome. Mis: Ruby Bone (her sister) was bridesmaid, and wore a navy coat frock am 'small navy hat. The bridegroom was attended by Mr R. Bone as best man Wn.ie the bride was given away by her 'brother, Mr W. Bone. After the cere mony, the party were entertained at afternoon tea, and Mr and Mrs Parkin son left by the afternoon train foi 'Greymouth en route for Christchurcl
and South, where the honeymoon wil be spent. INANGAHUA SILVER BAND. I The twenty-fifth annual meeting c the above was held in the Band Room on Sunday at 10.30 a.m. when, beyond the members, the attendance was small. Mr J. B. Auld was voted t< the chair. The report and balance sheet were read and received. Tin Chairman referred to the valuable assistance the Band had rendered at 'public functions while he was Count}
Chairman, and was sure they would still assist at such. He congratulate* them upon their financial position as 'disclosed by the balance sheet. Air N Lawn spoke on the depreciation o assets as shown in the statement, am it was decided to deal ,with this mat 'ter at the monthly meeting. Mr Elli ston congratulated tho Band upon it. financial position, and, on his motion the auditor’s fee was increased b £1 Is. The election of officers resuli ed: —Patron, Mr F. B. Stallard; IT sident, Mr R. Wills (16th year); Band master, Air E. Sara; Deputy Band master, Mr W. Evans, Secretary, Al S. Robinson; Treasurer, Air A. G Reid; Hon Conductor, Air E. E. Ellis ton. Air Elliston eulogised Air Wills able occupancy of the position of Pre sident, as also did Messrs C. Potto; and J. B. Auld. The latter also re ferred to Air Elliston’s position as Honorary Conductor, and congratulatethe Band upon having such a generous and energetic official. The year’s pro gross was alone sufficient to show thir the services he had rendered to thBand was an asset to the community Other officers elected were: Band Serg Air W. Sara; Corp!., Mr L. Robinson Lance-Corpl., Mr E. Baird; Custodian Mr S. Corrin; Committee, officers oi the Band; Drum Major, Mr T. Baird Vice Presidents, Dr Church, Messrs Instone, Spencer, Cate, Monteith Nicolson. McCawe, P. Walker, West. Lawn, Keating, Panckhurst and J. B. Auld. Mr Wills referred to this ycai being the Band’s silver jubilee, am' asked if it was intended to celebrate the occasion by’ a public function This was also referred to by Alessrs Elliston and Nicolson, and on the motion of the last named, it was resolved that a meeting be called at a later .late to arrange a function or re-union, inc medal donated by Mr Wills foi tho best progress was awarded t< Bandsman McCawe. It was decided to inaugurate a boys’ solo competition ir conjunction with a picture benefit. Votes of thanks were accorded to the press and also to employers for allowing men off when required. Votes of 'thanks to Messrs J. B. Auld, to Mr E Nicolson for assistance in the Ponsonby Boys’ Band’s visit, and to the chair terminated the meeting.
Mr. D. Speedie was on Friday [arewellcd at Rotokohu at a social in the school room, and wag presented with a travelling rug. Mr. B. Silcock said all the residents regretted Mr. Speedie’s departure after his six years residence among them. Messrs R. Craig and J. Andrews also eulogised the guest, who has left for the Hauraki Plains.
