DAYLIGHT SAVING.
BILL OPPOSED. By Counties’ Conference. WELLINGTON, July 20. A motion to send a delegation to the Legislative Council to oijpose the Daylight Saving Bill wa s mooted at the conference of the Counties’ Association to-day. The motion emanated from Mr. P. F. Ityan, of Paparua, who said the fact that the Bill had passed tlie Lower House came like a- thunderbolt to the Canterbury people. It was now time that sensible people took a hand in the matter. If this bill passed the Legislative Council, it would make a tremendous difference to the farmers. Hon. Mr. Mclntyre (Buller) suggested that representatives should be appointed to make their objections to the Legislative Council. Mr. W. W. Scarf (Heathcote) said that ho could not see what damage the Bill would do to the farming community. It would simply set the clock back one hour. They would work according to the clock. Mr. F- Bowman (Southland) opposed the Bill in the interests of the children in the backldocks. who would have to get up an hour earlier. Mr. Richards (Vincent) said the towns wanted this Bill to get more sport. If they wanted the daylight saving in the towns, let them have n, but it should not be forced <>” G‘e rural districts. jVIr. J- S. Connett (laranaki) thought they should have strong reasons before hindering th c passing <>t the bill. There was already too much op]M)sition of town v. c*ountry. Other speakers spoke in favour ot the motion, which was carried ou the voices, which appeared io be a iou three to one. , A deputation is to wait upon Legislative Council to-morrow.
