MAORI RUGBY TOUR WILL FRANC SLUMP STOP IT? WELLINGTON. July 19. Whether the Maori Rugby team’s lour of France, in anticipation of which the members of which are already asambling, will actually eventuate, or whether the fall of the franc will o_efusion a last-minute cancellation, still [•(.'iiui-ns in abeyance. A special meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Council, at which there were present members of the Maori Advisory Board, was convened to go into the matter this evening. The meeting found it inadvisable to make any definite decision. Advice was received from the High Commissioner ’s office at London, that Mr J. Wray, the New Zealand representative on the Rugby Council in England, has received two further cablegram’s from the French Rugby Union, advising that everything was in order for the tour, and that the llameraivl Cov. had taken the necessary action with the P. and O. Shipping agents in Paris in regard to the payment of the passage money. However, as the New Zealand Council has received no definite advice m regard to the matter, it was decided that a cablegram be despatched to M'Wrav, asking his confirmation of the statement as to the passage money having been paid, so that tickets can bo procured. The meeting accordingly adjourned until to-morrow pending a cabled ro ply from Mr Wray. imperial rugby CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON. July 19In the event of the tour of the New Zealand Maori Rugby team not taking place, Mr. H. Harris (Joint Manager of the team) will be sent to England to attend the Imperial Rugby Conference, as delegate from the New Zealand Union.
