The Election Issue.

The Liberal Headquarters issued a statement on Wednesday declaring:— “Mr Meighen constitutes now all tha can be designated as the Government of Canada. Whatever pertains to Cana fla’s domestic, inter-imperial, and in ternational affairs and responsibility in-so-far as Ministers are 1 sworn t< administer the several departs of Go vernment, he is the entire Cabinet rtli* the sole Executive.” The statement adds: ■“Either ther
is in Canada no Government which wd be recognised as such by British con stitutional practice, or the Govcrnmen is one man—a Government that i carrying on with such expedients a e himself is devising.” The election date is unlikely to b announced for ten days yet. IMPERIAL CONFERENCE DELAYED. LONDON, July 7. The general elections in Canada have again focussed attention on the possibility of the postponing of the Imperial Conference. Canadian circles in London assert that it will be impossible for the new Canadian Prime Minister to leave Ottawa so soon after the election to attend at the original date. It is thought that a postponement will be favourably considered.
