SUMMER TIME.
BILL PASSED. By the House. (Special to “Argus.”) WELLINGTON, July 8. When the House went into committee early on Thursday morning to discuss Mr. T. K. Sidey’s summer time bill, which had passed its second reading by 35 votes to 18. Mr. Holland, Leader of the Opposition, moved an amendment providing in the operative time clause to have a provision added that in industries where hardship would accrue through the earlier starting time standard t time could be observed. Mr. W. S. Glenn (Rangitikei) sought tp have the Bill amended to exclude th e dairy industry from its operation, but this was not acceptable. Mr. Sidey finally agreed to- insert a clause when the bill went to the Up per House, providing that, upon the application of a party to an industrial award, the Arbitration Court could determine that standard time should obtain in that industry. This Wrtisfied Mr. Holland, "‘Ko then withdrew his amendment. He said he merely wished t o protect the interests of th© workers. On a division on the operative clause, it was agreed to by So votes The bill was read a third time and passed.
