GREY POWER BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting cf the above Board was held in the Board’s offiice last evening. Present Mr. J. W. Greenslade (chair), D. Tennent, W. Leitch, A. Robinson, AV, Clayton, J. Mulcai'e* C. Uddstrom, H. Duggan and Jas. o‘Brien. A deputation of the Engine Drivers’ Union waited on the Board and asked that the wages of firemen be raised in conformity with the Westland Agreement. It wa s resolved that a committe e consisting of Messrs Leitch Tennent, the Engineer and Mr. O‘Brien meet the deputation from the Engine Drivers’ Union with a view of drawing up an agreement. Th e minutes of the previous meeting taken as read and confirmed. Outward correspondence letters to Railway Department to Audit Department, the Manager Union Co., and Messrs Nancarrow and Co., were approved. Mr. Tennent gave an account of his interview with the Auditor-General in regard to carrying on the work of the Board out of loan monies and stated the Auditor-General was satisfied that the interest and mainte;. ance expenditure could be charged up to loan as the work wa s not sufficiently far advanced for the revenue to balance expenditure. Mr. Tennent received a vote of thanks fop his efforts on the Board’s behalf while in Wei lington. A letter from the Engineers’ Associa tion asking that remits be sent to conference.—Left in hands of the Engineer to deal with. Resolved that the Chairman and Engineer attend the Power Board Conference and failing the chairman not being able to attend the conference another member be appointed.— Carried. Mr. Leitch moved and Mr. o‘Brien seconded that the “Truth” newspape; be supplied with a copy of the balance sheet, when same is published.—Carried.

Be financial assistance.—Resolved that the matter be left over until next finance meeting which will take place in a fortnight’s time. From Brunner Borough Council approving of site selected for sub-station and suggesting that 12 lamps be plae_> cd in Wallsend, Dobson and Taylorville. Mr. Leitch moved that Brunner Borough be supplied with the lights as suggested and the rates, £4 pci lamp, be approved by the Board.—St conded by Mr. Tennent and carried

Tenders were received for sinking twenty-three holes on Cobden bluff. —Price and Party £59; Geo. Carlylsle and Party, £6O; F. Ro sell ,£69; R. Quinn and Co., £45; Gus Webster .£45 4s; E. W. Paine and Party £Bl. In connection with the above tenders it was resolved tht Chairman, Chairman of Works Committee and the Enginer go into the tenders and have power to accept a suitable tender. WORKS COMMITTEE’S REPORTSince the last meeting your commit, tee ha s visited the following places where work is in progress and to be started as soon as possible.—Brunner, Wallsend, Taylorville, Dobson, Blaketown, Greymouth, Cobden, Paroa. We have, to report that the reticulation work is not being completed as speedily as we consider necessary tor the welfare of the Board. We therefore recommend “That another party of linesmen and wiremen be employed to complete the reticulation work of Blaketown, Cobden, Taylorville, Dobswi, Brunner and Runanga in the quickest possible manner.” “That the work of erecting the l»ue around Cobden Bluff and the shifting of the poles on the Runanga line be proceeded with immediately, and that where possible this work be done bv contract.”

“That the line t o supply Taylorville l>e taken across the Grey River just below the Taylorville Bridge. ’ “That those householders who have had their houses wired be given first consideration in the matter of being connected np with the supply mains. ’ Yours faithfully., J. Mr. Tennent moved that the New River Dredging Co., be notified that the power wa» available for that company since June sth last. —Seconded by Mr. Uddstrom.—Carried. Resolved that a junior clerk be advertised for at a salary of £3 10s pet week, and that any applicant personally canvassing members be disqualified from competing in the selection. The matter of houses for works was left over until the special meeting to bo held in two weeks’ time. The Engineer’s Report was adopted Mr, Henry, Mains Superintendent, applied for his annual holiday. The matter wae left in the hands of the Chairman and the engineer to make the best arrangements possible The Chairman reported on what had been done at the conferences between the Grey and Westland Power Boards rc the taking over of the Kumara Water Race and stated that the Grey Board delegates had agreed to allow the Westland Board to have a clear field providing the Westland Board allowed Girey 500 kilowatts of the power generated if needed.—lhe report was adopted.
