SUNBEAM COLUMN.

GOOD THOUGHTS TO ALL THE j WORLD! . Dear Sunbeams, —1 wonder if we j really know how the great working i class struggle is progressing in Brit- < ain? Are men found who are so low down the scale of humans that they ' are willing to do the work when other men are lighting for a great principle i 1 earnestly and sincerely hope that the strikers win the day. Don’t you? {Send, out your good thoughts to the strikers, because they need all the support they can get. To-day in Britain men and women are fighting not only their fight, but ours, too; for, as 'sure as the capitalists of Britain are forcing or trying to force longer hours *of work and reduced wages on the workers of Britain, so will the capitalists of New Zealand very soon try to force the same on the workers of New Zealand. If a call comes to us to help the strikers, let us do our best, and give them all that we possibly can. Let us tell them that we will collect for them if they only give us the call. Britain’s struggle is our struggle, and so are all working class struggles anywhere in the world. “When a deed is done for freedom, through the broad earth’s aching breast Runs a thrill of joy prophetic, trembling on from east to west; And the slave, where’er he cowers, feels the soul within him climb To the awful verge of manhood, as the energy sublime Of a century “bursts full-blossomed on the thorny stem of time. Through the walls of hut and palace shoots the instantaneous throe, When the travail of the ages wrings earth’s systems to and fro; At the birth of each new era, with a recognising start, Nation wildly looks to nation, standing with mute' lips apart, And glad Truth’s yet mightier manchild; Jeaps beneath the Future’s heart. So the- evil triumph sendeth, with a terror and a chill, Tender continent to continent, the sense of coming ill, And the slave where’er he cowers, feels his sympathies with God In hot tear-drops ebbing earthward, to be drunk up by the sod, Till a corpe crawls round unburied, delving in the nobler clod, For mankind are one in spirit, and on instinct bears along, Pound the earth’s electric circle, the swift flash of right or wrong; Whether conscious or unconscious, yet Humanity’s vast frame

Through its ocean sunder’d fibres feels the gush of joy or shame; In the gain or loss of one race all the rest have equal claim.” —LOWELL. Good thoughts to all the world always. May success be the ultimate end of the great struggle of the workers of Britain. Good always, AUNT FLORA. Kokiri. Dear Aunt Flora.—Good thoughts to all the world always, and to all bunbeams to Uncle Jim, and yourself. I was very disappointed when 1 heard you ■were at the Kokiri sports, and 1 did not meet you, but still, better luck next time. 1 hope you enjoyed your ride from Stillwater to Kokiri.
