MAIN SCHOOL COMMITTEE

FIRST MEETING OF THE YEAR. Th© first meeting of the new Main School Committee was held at the Main School last evening. The chairman Mr. J. Tennent presiding, and th© following members being present —Messrs W. H. Parfitt, R. .1, Wil Hants, R. Barrowman, A. V. Oliver. H. Herring and .J .Lamberton (secretary.) The chairman extended a welcome to the new members of the School Committee, Messrs Parfitt and Oliver, who responded suitably. HEADMASTER’S REPORT. The Headmaster reported that the attendance at the Main Schoo] ha I been affected by the bad weather during the last, fortnight. At Blaketown several of the children had been absent either through sickness or had been out of the district with their pa rents. The figures for the month were »• follows: —

Main Sschool.—Average attendance 573. Blaketown—average attendance, 75. Total average attendance, 648; to. tai roll number 703. Several necessary repairs were reported. With reference to holidays, the report started that in accordance with the decision ot the Education Board the term holidays would commence on May 14th. next It was recommended that a curtain be put up in the Infant Room to di vide the two upper infant classes. Th t report was received and adopted. The repairs mentioned being left in tin hands of the Chairman and Secretary to attend to.

The dental officer, Miss M. Armstrong reported having treated 102 patients for the period between April 12 and 30. The report was received and adopted. It was decided to purchase a nev flag for the school, the present one being blown to tatters. Mr. Herring advocated the committee forming a School Committees 4 Association or the Coast. Mr. Parfitt endorsed thc recommendation. It’was decided to defer the matter for consideration, the secretary was instructed to enquire into the constitution of the Association in Christchurch.

Messrs R. Barrowman and W Scott were appointed visiting commit tee for the ensuing month.
