FLYING FOXES RAID CANE FIELDS. StDNEY, May 7. Foxes in tlio Clarence River district have developed a sweet tooth, doing extensive damage to the sugar cane fields, especially amongst the softer varieties, which they chew oil to a height of three feet. POLICE BRIBED BY BOOKIES. ADELAIDE, May 7. Before the Police Bribery Commission, a bookmaker gave evidence that he was several times removed from the racecourses by the police. He was advised by friends that it was no use, ■‘unless you. sling.” He had several times paid money to constables and was then not molested. In his opinion it was utterly impossible to conduct betting on racecourses without bribing the police N.Z’ER IN TROUBLE. SYDNEY, May 6. At the Central Police Court, James Murdoch Bryson was remanded into the custody of al detective from Auckland on a charge of stealing in New Zealand. Bryson was arrested 'on board the Marania on April 30.
