VARSITY DEBATERS.
| AT AUCKjjAND. . AUCKLAND, March 39. lhe Brdish Universities’ debating team arrived by the Aorangi lasi night, viz., Messrs Paul Reed (King’s College, London), R. Nunn May (Rirminoham University), H. E. Molsnn (No?v College, Oxford), T. P. McDonald (Edinburgh University). The last named is not tho son of tho ex Prime Minister hero last year. I’hey will leave for Dunedin on Monday evening. The British University team, which was organised by tho National Union of Students of England, Scotland and Wales, sailed from England on January 2, for Canada. They visited most of the largo towns in Canada, and all the principle Universities. They were engaged in debates on about twenty occasions, being adjudged the winners of all but throe. Asked if they hoped that their visit to tho Dominions would bo returned. Mr Rood said so far as New Zealand was concerned it was a question of British students making up leeway. The Rhodes scholars had long been ambassadors of New Zealand, apd they were well liked and popular among English students. The delegation will leave for Sydney on April 23. After touring Australia they will return to England. Mr Reed | is a journalist. Mr May a scientist, and Mr Molsnn and Mr McDonald are pursuing the law.
