HOBBS ON THE AUSTRALIANS. LONDON. Alarch 28. Hobbs, in a lengthy criticism in the I newspaper ‘‘Dispatch,” on the members of the Australian team and the prospects of the tour say: ‘‘England is strong where the Australians are weak, viz., in the quality of her medium paced bowlers, which after all is generally the backbone of a team's bowling. We are as good cricketers, man for man iu England as in Australia. Determination to win is only required to prove it.” -*t* does not complain that the Australian players and newspaper articles are permeated with confiduitco to retain the ashes, but regrets English writers are manifesting a spirit of carping criticism. The visitors (he says) certainly are a formidable side, but are not the super-cricketers some people want Io make out. His considered opinion is that English cricket at the present time is equal to the Australian. ‘ IMPORTED COACHES. WELLINGTON, March 29. Regarding the Auckland Cricket Association’s suggestions re the engagement of player-coaches, the Wellington Cricket Association has decided to rep]v that the Association is of the opinion that “our policy of bringing out professionals as jiennanent residents of the Dominion is in the best interests of New Zealand cricket.’'*
