Williams, J. Greancy, E. Ashton, ,T. Lrislane., AV. F. G. Pullin. Mr. Thompson the Board Secretary was I also present. ’ My. \\ . H. Parfitt, who represented, the Board at the Dunedin Confer- | dice tendered a verbal report of the proceedings there. He moved that a letter of appreciation be sent to Mr. Knight head of: the Hospital authorities al Dunedin, for his courtesy in dealing with the Board’s requirements. A vote of thanks was passed by the Board to Mr. Parfitt for his representation t<> the Dunedin Con-fen-nee. The Nurses’ and Midwives’ Regis*. frat ion Board, wrote advising the Hospital Board that the Grey Hospital and the Rewa Maternity Home had been registered as Training Schools for maternity nurses. A letter was received from the Blackball Medical Association i\. its agreement. It was resolved to defer consideration of the matter to enable details of the position io be obtained irnin the Superintendent. Letters of thanks for chaiiiable aid were received from three persons. Au application was received for admission to the San i tori uni. As Ihe Board > cubicles at Cashmere Hills were occupied, admission vva<? suggested io the AA aipukurau Sanitoriuin. 1 MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT’S. REPORT. The Medical Superintendent reported as follows:—Operating Theatre:—As there arc improvements intended in the operating theatre, I ask permission from the Board to purchase- a- plant for the preparation of hot nnd cold sterile water. At present we are working in the theatre, and have been for sonic time under grave disabilities with regard to the supply of sterile waler. The expense of instituting an effective system. such as could be installed bv Mercers of would be somewhat large, but it would be so equipped that it. Could be u K ed for many years and *’uch equipment will ultimately require to bp bought. ( Back Sterilising.— 1 wish to draw I the attention of the Board to the rej quirernents as regards the sterilising of infectious materials. The arrangements for disinfecting infectious materials which arc in use at present are in accordance with the Regula ' lions, but, at the same time, are not efficient. 'I In- cost of the institution of an efficient siorilisino plant is in 1 I the vicinity of L 95. This consists ul i a pack steriliser, worked with super--1 heated steam. and can effectively deal with mattresses in almost three minutes. Messrs Cory. Wright and ('almon of Wellington, are agents foi this. Lockers.- Ihe question of provi'ling new locker accommodation for the wards* has been frequently revised. The Hospital throughout needs new lockers. The cost of the making of them would not be more than y'2 15s each, at day labour price. If done bv contract, it would probable be much less. Both the • flicient working of the wards and their neat appearance would be contributed to buy the supply of new lockers. Buildings.—At the commencement of the New Year, I wish to again diaw the .Board’s, attention to the matter o| building] a new morgue, and also a new isolation block. The necessity for a new morgue is well known. T he site for it, near the new boiler house is alone a matter for discussion. 1 think that either the position now known as the Matron’s garden. or that behind the boiler, would be suitable. Mr. Longshaw, Clerk of Works, has drawn up plans for the building, which he will submit to the Board.
Isolation Block.- I recommend that this building, which will enable us to nurse both dipthena and scarlet fever cases under the same, roof, be placed, if the Board is agreeable to its erection and location, on the- brow of the hill along from the tuberculosis slielshelter attached to the Petrie Ward. The Boiler House-—During the week the new boilers have been in use*. ’They have not worked uniformly well, but I’m sure that as soon as they are in proper working order, the improve ment in efficiency will be very noticeable. Electric Lighting.—Regarding electric light supply, 1 beg to request that the Board will consider the installation of a transformer, as recommended by Mr. Lythgoe, tor the purpose of accommodating, the Power Board supply t<j the driving of the X-Ray plant and lighting the Hospital. For this the dynamo which. w€ have could be used as a spare supply in case o-[ emergency. '1 he dynamo at present will not sustain the load wo require lor driving our X-Ray generations. Dr. P. C. Fenwick who has dune X-Ray work for Nears i (In Ktchurch and who was here recent lv fen* radium tieatment. very kindly tested our plant thoroughly one al ter noon, and found that he could not get good pictures himself with the equipment at his disposal. At liisi suggestion, [ am sending the tubes tc>
Christchurch io lx> tested, but he is also of the opinion that the dynamo is nut strong enough Lu drive the machine. The report w a ; , received and adopted. VISITING (.’OM.AHTTE'S REPORT.
