55n BUILDINGS LOST. IN VICTORIA. MELBOURNE, Feb. 24. The sub-committee o.’ the Cabinet, ■which ib devising a scheme for tin* i.-hal-ilitation of the sufferers from the recent disastrous fires, has compiled :i List of buildings destroyed. These, for the me,st part are settlers’ and workers’ homos, and number about 550. At least 390 will have, to be rebuilt. The Committee is desirous of having as many as possible c>f these reco..Btructed before winter sets in properly, so that residents of the burnt-out areas may be comfortably re-established during the cold, wet weather. The Committee waited 011 the Lord Mayor ami offered to place at Lis disposal experts and architects from the Qovirnment Departments to advise tipoi-i the? design of the' new buildings required. Officers ccmnectod with the Lands, Forestry and other Departments will also be made available to assist the Committee* in any capacity they nr? able.
