LANG’S DEiERMINAIIuN. (Received February 24 at 10.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 24. i-.e Premier*s next move regarding he Upper House crisis will be an ap--•al to the forthcoming Australian Labour Party Conference to abolish the present system t. the Caucus selection of candidates for appointment to the Legislative Council, and to empower me Leader of the Labour Party to nominate the candidates on his own responsibility, subject to the Central Executive’s endorsement of the candidal es’ qualifications as members of the I Labour Movement. Ine Ministers strongly urge the adoption of this course, and thev cxI rcss confidence that the Caucus will not raise any objections. It is suggested in some quarters that if Premier Lang is to retain his present following, he will be compcllt'd to introduce payment of Legislative Councillors, as the Country members complain that the expense of frequent visits to Sydney is heavier than they can bear. 'Die Minister and thc Premier refuse to comment on tin* situation. Mr I<an<r only stating that he had nothing tn sav, except to repeat that the Legislative ’ onnril will cease to exist, before the end of this year.
