MAORI DISAPPEARS.
AFTER ATTEMPTED MURDER. WELUXGTON, February 11. The local police have been informed of a sensational occurrence at Awahuri, six miles away last night. A halt-caste Maori, residing at the Pa there, is now missing and is being searched for by the police. It is alleged that Sutlieiland, the missing man. had a din’erence with his wife, and that separation proceedings were pending. Tlie wile was staying with her parents, and at- midnight the house was discovered in flames. On emerging, i t is stated. all three were assaulted, the. wife being stabbed by Sutherland, who then disappeared. The wife lost a great deal of blood, and is in a serious condition. Both women were taken to the Hospital. The house was reduced to ashes.
