As the result of a cvclone between Townsville and Cardwell, ten to fourteen inches of rain were recorded in 24 i hours. Aluch « f the surrounding country is covered by six inches to two feet of water. The Herbert River is rising rapidly and inHway traffic is held up owing to washouts.
