FISHFRMEN AT RUSSELL. Some Good Catches. WHO’S WHO AT BAY 01ISLANDS. AUCKLAND, February 11. Recent Russell catches are:—Zane Grey, swordfish, 2301 b; Capt. Mitchell, swordfish, 299 lb; \\. Lambe (Sydnev) swordfish 21(1 lb.; Airs Sparrow (England) swordfish 270 lb.; (i A Buddle (Auckland), niako shark 217 lb. When asked what he thought of the fishing in the Bay of Islands, Mr Gi-ev said: "You have here a wonderful fishing ground, ano I hope to catch a iish weighing anything up to 10001 b.” Captain Mitchell, and Mr. Grey fish only with a single hook; all other anglers use a treble hook, and they have such strong gear that they can bring a. swordfish alongside the launch in a few minutes. Among the fishing visitors at lltwsell. are:—Sir Maynard Hedstrom (Fiji); Colonel and Mrs Duttvi’ile, and Major Corbett (Ireland): Cblonel and Mrs Sparrow (Essex, 'England); Mr. T. R. Hubbttck (Malay States). Mr. R. Kellum, the wealthy American, who is visiting New Zealand in his private yacht the Kaitnilou, will arrive at Russell on February 18th., for ten days' fishing. tie has three swordtishing launches of his own, and has chartered another otic at Russell.
