A iiiiinus story of ihe alleged tlirfl of a miniature, valued el £5OO, ba'ong‘ng to Sir Archibald Ifainiitou, was told at the tiial of Baron and Baron uss Ostcn Sacken, both Russians. It was alleged that they had been guests at tea of Sir A. Hamilton, who showed them his art collection. After they lift, a miniature was missed, ami the couple were arrested as they were alighting from the .bout train at Southampton, when the miniature was fouml in the possession cf the Baroness, who is described as a charming woma n. She alleged that when looking over the collection, she admired ti.'e min’m ture, whereupon Sir A. Hamilton said: ‘‘You really line it Baroness," and thrust it into her hand, adding ‘‘Thun I it's yours. ’ ’ Sir A. Hamilton denied this story. a<ldin'2‘ that he might have been :i I-'": Juan in his youth, but was much older and wiser now. The Baron was acquitted, but : .b* Baroness was committed for trial.
