BRITISH DISCLAIMER. (Received January 1!> al 5.40 p.iu.) (Reuter.) LONDON, January IS. In a speech at Ludlow, reviewing 'lie Government's record, Kt. Bon. W. C. Bridgeman (first Lord of the Admiralty) said that it was not generally known that other great maritime powers, namely, the United States, Japan, France and Italy had laid down since the war over three hundred warships, from cruisers downwards, while Britain's contribution had only been eleven. lly added: ‘‘So do not I'4 anybody say we have led competition in the new construction of warships.
