GOVERNOR-GENERAL.
HOKITIKA VISIT. o*l'Saturday the Governor-General and party departed by the 7.50 a.m. train for Hokitika. Eh route His Excellency’s train halted at Awatuna, where he was met by a troop of Boy Scouts, in charge of Mr. Seward, and to whom he gave an address. The Scouts gave salutes. and cheers for the Governor-General. At Sea View Sir (lias, Fergusson loft The train and visited the Westland Hospital, in company with the Hob. H. L. Michel, M.L.C.. Messis G. A. Peny (Mayor of Hokitika) T. E. V. Soddon M.P., and H. M. Coulson (Deputy Mayor of Hokitika), who were present to meet him on arrival. Subsequently there was a civic welcome in Hokitikai, which was numerously attended, and later the GovernorGeneral attended n gala dav organised by the Beautifying Society. The Governor-General left on his return by the 5.20 p.m. train.
A very large assemblage gathered on Mawiiera Quay on Saturday evening to bid farewell to the GovernorGeneral aboard the s-» T utanekai At nine o’clock th© wharf was lined with spectators. TTi e Tutanekai was timed to sail at 9.30 p.m., but it was not until a quarter of an hour later that the vessel swung into the stream and the last line was cast. The Tutanekai reached Westport yesterday morning. A Westport Press Association message yesterday stated -. The ViceRegal Party arrived from Greymouth in’ the morning, and attended the Presbyterian Church, where at the conclusion of a Christening ceremony, the mother and child were at the Governor-General’s . request, presented to himself and Lady Fergusson, who shook hands with them, and wished them well. HOKITIKA, Dee. 19.
The. Governor-General, aceoriipanied by Lady Fergusson and party, made an official visit to Hokitika to-day. They first visited the Westland Hospital and then motored to the front of the Free Public Library, where a public address was presented from the people of Westland. The speakers included the Mayor, County Chairman, and Mr T.-.E. V. Seddon, M.P.
His Excellency replied, a splendid address being heartily cheered at the conclusion. Subsequently the party motored to the Rimu Flat Dredge, ami thence to Lake Kaniferi, where they luncheoned. On their return, the party attended a gala at Cass Square, and received a hearty send-off at the railway station. Perfect weather prevailed, and the visit was very successful.
