RUNANGA NOTES

SCHOOL COMMITTEE. At the Runanga School Committee meeting, all members were present, except Mr R. Southward, who was absent through illness. The minutes were confirmed as road, and inward correspondence was received and dealt with. _ It was resolved that the Runanga School Committee is not in favour of Bible reading in schools. The Committee will send their resolution on to Mr L. M. Isitt, M.F., by >next mail. It was resolved that Mr Barnes and Mr Rafferty interview Mr Moore re donating a picture show for the prize fund. The committee resolved to congratulate Mr Malone (Head-master) and his staff for their splendid efforts while they have been in charge of the school. The success of Master W. Davis in winning the Seddcsi Medal was a very creditable one. The Head-master’s (Mr Malone) reports were received as satisfactory. They showed the roll number as 244, being an increase of eight over last month's roll.

The Committee resolved to meet yesterday (Sunday) morning at 9.30 to inspect the school ground, and decide on what amount of earth they will take off to grade the ground; Accounts amounting to £2 were passed for payment. Euchre Tournament. At the Euchre Tournament in aid of the Gymnasium Fund held on Saturday night, there was a large attendance and the prizes were awarded as follows:—lst, Mrs A. Taylor; 2nd, Mrs' R. Armstrong; 3rd, Mrs H. Giligan.
