ENGLISH MATCHES, LONDON, August 5. In the Notts-Surrey match there were amazing acenes on the second day when Surrey were due to Lal. Thirty thousand were present at the Oval before the start, and the crowd encroached twenty yards round the boundary. After lunch, the attendance was thirty-four thousand, a. record. Many left when Hobbs was dismissed. Notts first innings realised 313 (Carr 53, AVhysall 50), second 223-4 declared. (Carr not out 107), against Surrey. Surrey’s first 302 (Hobbs 51, Sandham 69, Jardine 53) Larwood taking 4-2. The match was drawn.
Sussex first innings, scored 117 (Haig taking 4-30 and Hearne 5-38) and in the second 201, against Middle sex, first. 221 (Hendren not. out eighty two) Tate taking 6—12, and second 92-9. (Tate 4-33, Wansley 5 for 41). Middlesex won by one wicket.
Hampshire, first innings 170 (Mead 82,) Marriot taking 6-50, second 161 (Mead 71). Marriet 5-56 Freeman 5-52 against Kent, firs! 232 (Woolley 70), Kennedy taking 6-62, second 100-4 (Hardinge not out 52) Kent won by six wickets.
Lanchashire, first innings 320 IHallows 79, Makepeace 90) second 74-6. (Kilner taking 5-14) against Yorkshire first 277 (Sutcliffe 62, Leyland not out 80) Sibbles taking 4-60. The match was drawn.
Playing for Glamorgan against H. Leveson Gower’s team, Ryan took 6 for 60. The match was drawn. For Leicester against Northants Skelding took 5 for 4-1, and for North ants Clark took 5 for 56. Th e match was drawn, .For Essex against Worcester, , O'Connor took 5 for 40, and Eastman 6 for 29. The match was drawn. For Gloftulester againgt. Somerset Dipper made 150 and Parker took 5 for 87, while for Somerset Bridges took 6 for 82. The match was drawn Rain generally interfered with p|ay.
