FROM COUNTY COUNCIL. 1 FOR DUNEDIN EXHIBITION. His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. H. Parfitt) and Mr F. Denton (Town Clerk) representing the Borough Council and Mr J. McLean (Deputy Chairman) representing the Greymouth Harbour Board, waited upon the Grey County Council yesterday in regard to securing a vote from that body to ensure the West Coast being worthily represented at the forthcoming New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition at Dunedin. The Mayor stated that at a conference of Borough and Harbour Board representatives it had agreed that those two bodies contribute tho sum of £l5O each, providing that a like amount was forthcoming from the County Council. It was their wish that the West Coast' make a display at the exhibition that would be worthy of the district. The Hokitika Borough Council have also agreed to contribute the sum of £l5O. Mr J. McLean endorsed the remarks of the Mayor. In deciding to vote the sum of £l5O toward the project, the Harbour Board felt that it was money’ well spent. If the Co.unty Council did not come to light in a similar manner, tho project would fall through. Mr Robinson said he was not in favour of contributing anything. “We have enough trouble in getting the money without fooling it away,’’ he said. “We have a hard enough row to hoe without having this sort of thing. ’ ’ Mr Ryall: “We want all our money to spend on our roads. I don’t think I need express an opinion i.i the matter. Mr Chairman. Mr Blair: If we start to spend £l5O in this manner we will get bumped back. Mr Greaney: “I can't support a move to spend money in this manner. We Councillors are getting it put up to us every day in the week.’’ Continuing, Mr Greaney’ said that the Hospital rate had to be increased, and he could not see why £l5O should be expended in advertising the Coast’s products at the Dunedin exhibition. Persons away from the Coast knew what tho Coast's products were, and he could not see that, such being the case, the Council should spend £l5O in advertising them. The Chairman (Mr Hannan) replying to the deputation, stated that the Council felt it had no money to spare for the project. The Deputation thanked the Council .for its courteous hearing. '
