WESTPORT NOTES

(Our own Correspondent). WESTPORT, August 3. The telephone cable in Palmerston Street has been dismantled, the poles removed from the street and all the wires ar e now worked into the various business places in Palmerston Street from the underground cables. Palmerston Street head high tension lines are now erected for the electric light and power scheme.

On Sunday afternoon at the Inangahua Junction, the funeral of the late Buller Gorge coal mine owner, Mr Wm. Burley, took place. The remains were followed from the Hotel to the cemetery by a very large gathering of friends from all parts of tho district. The coffin was borne by two relays of tho associates of the deeeased. The Rev Father Herring of Reefton, officiated at the graveside. There are several cases of chicken pox in the Westport district. It is undrstood that the cement works at Cape Foulwind will soon be floated and a start made with the works. The Murchison Oil Fields will also bo floated at an early date. A good supply of oil is flowing out in this field, and reports state that it is as good us any of tho imported article. Tho Public Works Department is doing a fair amount of work on the Puller Gorge Hoad. Several of the bridges are under repair, thus (insuring safety for the heavy- traffic. Mr C.
