TRIAL GAME.
MARIST SCHOOL (4) TECH. (2). On Victoiial Park yesterday afternoon the Technical School team met 1 Marist first eleven; th e Tech team was strengthened by the inclusion of Thompson (Cobden) and for a time of Pattinson (Runanga). Immediately after the kick-off a splendid passing movement, among the Marist. forwards enabled C. Williams to score; the same player later made use of bis pace and outpacing the full backs gave the goal-keeper no chance. In the second half Baldwin equalised one of his shots being a particularly neat one. With the scores even both sides fought hard and some very fine football was witnessed. Knox (Marist) put his side ahead with a fine shot and shortly afterwards Williams increase the green's lead with a shot from close in. No player need be singled out for special mention all the players giving of their best. Jhe selectors picked the rep team winch will be published to-morrow. GREYMOUTH 11 v. RUNANGA 11. The above game was played at Dunollie before a fair attendance. the ground being very heavy. The teams were as follows: Grey: Rodgers. Sharp, Matthews, Brown, Denniston, Furness: Bond, Potts, Bayley and Sloss. Runanga: Bowden, Bell, Davis, Pattnison, Wick, Mossop. Steele, Malpass, Gore, Adamson, and Douglas. Ru.ianga, winning the toss, decided to kick downhill and were not long in bombarding Gxey’s ing. Bond, getting possession, sped up and the wing cen.trcd, I /'is clearing with a hefty kick. Malpass secured, and after good work, passed to Gore, the latter sending iff a hard shot, which the Greymouth goalkeeper failed to hold, Runanga thus scohpg after 10 minutes’ play. The ball being centred, Grey again came away, but were handicapped through having only 10 men. Runanga were not to be denied, a.id good work ’’v Wick and Malpass enabled Gore to beat Rodgers onee again, Rodgers having no chance. Grey began by putting a great amount of dash into their play, but were repulsed time and again by the Runanga defence., Bayley, I’fltls and Bond were always dangerous, but a break away saw Runanga again looking dangerous when :the whistle sounded half time: Runanga 2, Grey 0. . The 2nd half saw Grey looking dangerous, but lacking a good finish, Runanga holding the upper hand of the game from -now on, although Grey came away with an occasional rush. The ball was again sent back into Grey territory, and Gore, with his weight and speed, again scored. The centre kick saw Runanga come down the field, Matthews clearing, whew things looked bad for Grey. However; the ball was soon returned, Douglas sending in a good centre, and from the scrummage around the goal mouth, Adamson netted no 4. From the centre kick Grey again came away through Sharpe, the latter being robbed by Bell, who made a good clearance. Steele securing, beat Furness on the run and crossed. Mossop, getting possession, passed to Gore, who had no difficulty in scoring. The whistle sounded shortly after with Runanga the winners. Mr I. Mossop made an efficient referee. The Runa.iga men all played well, while Rodgers, Sharp, Bayley. Potts Bond and Matthews all played well for G rey.
