BUSINESS MAN'S FALL. WELLINGTON, August 3. George. William Thorpe was found guiltv of forgery and theft of monies paid for furniture, during the time he was manager cf the firm of C. and W. Price. Thorpe is a> well known business man in Nelson and Wellington. Ho had occupied various responsible posit ons for forty years. He. was the Director of auctioneer ing. and acting as manager. He purchased various lots of furniture, t aying cash in the majority of cas and produced a forped recc.pt for a large amount, receiving this amount from the firm, and pocketing the dif. feronce. He claimed that he was entitled to do this, but he failed to satisfactorily explain the f° ct tllat > n ajorirv of cases, forged signatories tied been placed on the receipts >r hired. Hq will be sentenced to-morrow.
