PARLIAMENT
WHERE TORIES DIFFER. CHRISTCHURCH, August 3. The Reform nomination for the Riccarton seat is leading to some division in the ranks of the Party here. There are two would-be candidates, Messrs Ollivier and Kyle. ‘‘Underhand business” is alleged by’ Mr Kyle as th? explanation of Mr OUivier’s entry. Mr Kyle, who was previously defeated for the seat, said: ‘‘l cant’ understand these tactics at all. I have never been attacked in an underhand way like this before, and to say I am surprised is just putting it mildly. ‘‘l have been assured by members of the Reform executive in Christehurcn that that committee has had nothing to do with Mr OUivier’s ciwididature. On the other hand, I know that at least two members cf the executive have been busy in his interests, buttonholing my supporters in the electorate, and asking them to withhold any pledge to me until Mr Ollivier has had r,n opportunity te go to the ballot uf the Party.*
