GREY COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. ihc monthly meeting of the Grey County Council was held yesterday. Mr J. AV. Hannan presided, and there were also present, Messrs A. Robinson, J. Byall, J, Greaney, D. Baybutt, and A. Blair. The Public Works Department notified the payment of £485 8s 9d, in connection with various works. Authority was also forwarded in connection wit'i the expenditure of £4OO on the ParoaDungaville Road, and £l5O on the Inehbonnie Road. The application of Messrs AVilson and Spencer for permission to construct a tramway across the Arnold Valley Road was referred to the engineer. A letter was received from the Bruce County Council, asking for support to a resolution passed by that body, to have the Main Highways Act amended. The letter was referred to the engineer. Mr J. O’Brien, M.P., wrote acknowledging receipt of the Council’s letter supporting the Tawera County Council’s request for an increased subsidy in. connection with the AVest Coast Road, and stating that he would endeavour to obtain the support of their nlembers in the matter. The Council decided to take no action regarding the contributions to the Health Officers’ salary. Mr H. E. Holland, M.P., wrote acknowledging receipt of the Council's application for grants on the current yfear’s estimates, and stating that he Would confer with Mr J. O'Brien regarding the matter. The request of Mr H. Feary for permission to erect timber skids on the roadside at Rotomanu was referred to the engineer. Regarding the closing of a road at Kaiata, the Kaiata Ratepayers ’ Association wrote stating that that body had decided to take no action in the matter. It was decided that the engineer advise the person who erected the fence that he must either remove it or put in a gateway. A rate of threepence in the pound on the capital value was struck for the current year,
