GROW MORE PIGS
“GOOD MONEY IN BACON.” The New Zealand Meat Control Board is making every effort to develop the pork industry in the Dominion and to encourage exportation. This year up to June 30th 35,739 pigs have been killed for export. The prices realised have been fairly satisfactory, and the quality had made a good impression on the British market. In order to encourage the export of pork, the board has arranged with the shipping companies for a particularly low freight rate of 7-Sd per lb. It is recognised that if the pork industry is to be developed, shipments must arrive on the Home market during the months when required. The board is making a display at the Wembley Exhibition of specially picked porkers and baton pigs suitable for curing. In order to acquaint the trade will; the high quality of New Zealand bacon pigs, the board is distributing a quantity among several bacon curing firms in Great Britain, who are likely to become interested in the ex-port trade.
