(Our Own Correspondent). CHRISTCHURCH, July 27. PERSONALS. Messrs J. Steel and A. Adams, arrived in Christchurch from Inverearg'll tonight and will leave lor Greymouth in the morning. The death occurred at his resident Spreydou, of Mr Thomas John Jack, of Jack Bros., Ltd. Mr Jack was boro at Hobart, Tasmania, in 1862, and came to New Zealand, when a childAfter following up sawmilling wr . his father in Southland for some years he went to the West Coast with bis two brothers, the late »illiani Jack an 1 James Jack. Mr Jack carried on saw milling successfully on the West Coast, for twenty-three years, and then came to Christchurch four years ago to live in retirement. Mr Jack was exceedingly popular with all with whom he came in contact. He is survived by his vv.tii and a family cf three sons and (our daughters, Messrs G. and F. J. Jae.c, West Coast; Mr A. B. Jack, Temuk ; Mcsdames E. P, Peters and IL B- b Grevmo'Oth; Mrs T, H. Belling, Chr -t church; and Miss VM of 8, re/don. Football. About September a Hawke's .' team will arrive oil the West Coast or. a tour, which will embrace all the centres, where matches will be played. The team will include Ncpia :'i"l Mill, 1924 All Blacks, and some really good football should be seen! Another tciim which will tour the Coast about the same time will be one from South Canterbury. This tea-> will play in Christchurch first and will then proceed to the Coast. Farmer’s Bankruptcy. Losses in farming ventures amounting to £4714 15s Gd were disclosed in a statement presented to a meeting of creditors to day in the estate of John Richard Wallace corner of Westmyi ster Street and Shirley R rid, St. Albans.

Bankrupt attributed his losses ti the effects of the slump.

The liabilities totalled £4775 18s 6d and the assets were £6l 3s, leaving a deficiency of £4714 15s 6d. Bankrupt, in his sworn statement, said in regard to the West Coast do.iL i that on H’l- 23, 1920 he entered in'o ; partnership with a Mr Shields for the j purchase of a farm of 2044 acres at 1 Ikamatua, West Coast. Both were to ' pay a deposit of £2500. Shortly aft-? taking possession of this farm, there was a general slump in prices and for , the next three years they carried m I unsuccessful!!/. For a further twelve mouths the farm was carried on without stock and evenitu- ■ ally the property was sold by th. i mortgagee to Mr O'Malley.
