NEEDED roil MENTAL CASES
WOMAN’S SUICIDE. DUNEDIN, July 27
The need for a, half-way house between a genet al hospital and a mental hospital was emphasised by the Cloroner this morning, at the inquest on Isabella Jane Whyte found drowned in the Leith River on d uesday.
-r. Marshall MacDonald gave evidence that deceased suffered from insomnia and depress'on. It was not a case to commit, to a mental hospital, but a typical case for a half-wav house. Dr. MacDonald added that thev needed one or two wards with twelve to twentv beds for such cases. Plans for this were drawn up years ago, and evidently the Governim-nr intended to recognise their responsibility
Tim Coroner finding a verdict of suicide- during depression, remarked on the medical evidence, and the urgent need shown lor a half-way house.
