GIFT TO RUSSIA
' F ° n °"ing is a translation of a lettci received by the Central (Melbourne) Bureau of the Association* for i e Economic Advancement of the V.S.S.R., from t h e Permanent Commission for Agricultural and Industrial Immigration, at the Soviet for Labour and defence, Moscow:—
“Dear Comrades.— Your letter of January sth, 1925 has been rcceivvJ by us on February 16th, 1925 and
your draft through the Commonwealth Bank for £l2O reached us on February 19th, 1925, The £2O you allocated fur the maintenance of uncared for children has been immediately handed over to the Children’s Board, the members of which tender you their deep -appreciation of the keen interest taken by you in the children's aid, and their official receipt is herewith I. We also, on behalf of the toiling masses of the Soviet Union, express our thanks to the Australian workmen who donated, from their meagre means, the funds tq purchase a ‘steel horse’ (tractor.) so badiy needed for th c development of our rural economy. Your gift has particularly moved us since you insist that the’ tractor be made in one of the state’s own fac-
tories, as in so doing you, to a degree, are also assisting in the development of our z industries and every order
in our own factories obviates the necessity of buying from the capitalists abroad. In our negotiations with the representative of the Red Putilovity in Moscow, we learned that a tractor of the Fordson type with a full equipment of ploughs and spare parts will cost approximately 3103 roubles, which is approximately equal to £350. We ha\ c not placed the order for the tractor yet, as the Red Putilovity has a quantity of rqndy-made tractors in stock and your order may be filled
any moment-. But we desire to fix a plate on the tractor indicating that it is a gift from the Association for
Eennomie Advancement of U.S.S.R. i>

It stands out strikingly both in symmetry or design and in the excellent good taste and smartness of its equin ment.
In the final analysis, however, the most popular feature will unquestiouably prove to be its exceptional riding ease—brought about by the deeper seats and the new spring suspension Arrange for a TRIAL RUN in the new Dodge.
