minutes of the start. Lee obtained the ball from Cassels, and sent it in high to the net to score. A rush by the visitors reached the Nelson circle, when the goalkeeper saved on two occasions. A few minutes afterwards Lee again found the net. and he repeated the performance later in the spell. Several rushes by Australia were driven back by a splendil defence, in which Gibbs was particularly conspicuous. With three goals in arrears, the visitors at hist penetrated the defence, Craig netting from a scramble in front of the goal mouth. Tn the second half. Australia displayed more vigour, and they quite held their own, just missing scores more than once, but the final whistle blew with the scores: Nelson 3, Australia I.

Lee, in the local forward line, played brilliantly, while 'Gibbs was fully equal to all calls.

For the visitors W. Nettleton, Gray and Mills wore the pick. The local team played with fine combination, and their quick passing rushes and good foot work severely taxed I heir opponents.
