He said that he had not received a. summons to appear before the. I’ lited States Lawn Tennis Association, and declared emphatically that he had not violated the new player writer rule, through interviews, as was cabled on July 22. Questioned whether lie would appear if summoned, he said: ‘‘lf 1 happen to be in New York at the time, I may attend the meeting, and I may not. 1 certainly will not leave any tournament to do so.” Tilden's co.idm-t has revived t.»e whole controversy oxer the dolinition of an amateur. An examination of the ease is regarded as a certainty, since the officials are apprehensive of other nations protesting i.i the ex-ent of Tilden continuing his practice during tlw international events in which the United States is victorious.
