MORE FLOODS

IN WHAKATANE DISTRICT.

WHAKATANE, Julv 25

The Rangitati river is again in lull flood. It has inundated over' ten thousand acres of the plains. All the stock, however, was taken away in time, and the settlers left their noinesteads before the water surrounded the houses.

In the Kopopeo dredge cut, which runs into the Whakatane River, the water at present is five feet higher than the level of that river, owing to the smallness of the floodgates. Three floods have been experienced in two months, showing an urgent need for another outlet at the Whakatane river mouth. THUNDERBOLT NEAR TEARAROA. GISBORNE, July 25. During a storm at Teraroa this week, a terrific thunderbolt fell some miles inland, tearing a tree, and narrowly missing a house nearby. Five inches of rain fell each dav since Tuesday.
