U.S.A. FLEET VISIT
QUESTION OF LIQUOR. LUKE’S “DRY” STATUS. WELLINGTON, June 30. The press cable reporting that representations are (apparently being made to Admiral Coontz by Mr. C M. Luke at Honolulu regarding the subject of drinking among the men of the fleet when visiting New Zealand was brought under the notice ot a meeting of tho Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Reform Association when it was decided to send the following cable to Admiral Coontz, signed by the President, Archdeacon H. W- Williams: —“The New Zealand Licensing Reform Association de siro to convey to the Admiral that the fact that Mr. C. Al. Luke who is reported by cable ito ihade discussed with him file question of drinking among the men of the fleet, does not represent either the Government or the people of New Zealand his only status on this question being as a member of tho Committee of the Prohibition Party, who, wo regret, are using the welcome 1 visit of the Fleet ioi propagand apurposes in connection with the referendum votes on Prohibition to be held this year.” (signed) H.
