NOTES.
i (By * ‘ Spectator ' ’) C'.ngrntulations to N. Mouatt on hi> line display at Auckland. To score nil the nine points is no mean feat. He deserves his place in the New Zenilughie Mears seems .logged by “stilt Inek’’ this few weeks past. Am injured shoulder almost prevented him playing in the trial match at Christehnrcli; a glaring error of judgment kept him out of the original team .bos. ii for the South Island, and when this was rectified, an attack of the flu I very nearly prevented him from travelI ling to Auckland; while, as a culmbnaI tion of these troubles, he broke his collarbone in the match, after playing I a good hard game for his side . All 1 sports will wish him a speedy recovery, j His loss will be felt locally by the 1 Marists, and by the Coast reps. I Prior to Saturday’s games, Marists, I Hornby and Addington were level in ; the Christchurch Senior competitions, 1 all three having lost one game each. ■ Waimariri should have beaten Marists lon the day, the scores, S—7, being no I indication of the play. The veteran > Billy Mitehell, for Waimairi, was the ! best back on the ground. i In Auckland, the victorious City team put it all over Athletics by 57 to I 10. They seem a moral for the North- , epn championship again. There is a distinct possibility of Christiansen returning to the Coast : again very shortly. Somewhere about i the time of the knock-out cup, Bill Gerraghty will be here for five or six weeks on holiday. Any team got room for a good tackler, and as game a player as ever kicked a ball? Harold Wagstaffe, probably the finest centre of the League code, since the inception of the game, has announced his retirement. A native of Huddersfield district, he played senior football for that club at 16 years of age, represented Yorkshire in the County Cham pionships the following year, and was picked for England v. Wales (League) the same season. At the age of 21 he skippered the English side against Australia, and for more than a decade held his position as the undisputed loader of his club, county and country. Beu Gronow, the Welsh forward, who held the record as a goal kicker in the Longue game until recently beaten by ii brother, Taffy, in Sullivan (Coasters have semi them both) was presented by the Huddersfield directors with a gold watch and chain on the eve of
