WOOL QUESTION
- — EXPORT CONTROL The Higgins Plan N.Z. DELEGATES FAVOURABLE. (Received June 29, at 7.15 p.m.) (Aib. ami N.Z. Cable Association.) SYDNEY', June 29. Mr. Bernard Tripp and Mr \V. H. Nicholson, the New Zealand Pastoralists’ delegates, have returned from thc yjelbourne Wool Conference, and sail for New Zealand by the Alau»nganui on Fri'lax'. Meantime, they will discuss the posi[i;>u with tin* New South Wales pastoralists, and upon their return will discuss matters with the New Zealand Sheepowners’ Federation and the Wool ■: dm mittee . Interviewed concerning Sir John Higgi'its’ scheme the New Zealand delegates were disinclined to comment as the representatives of the New Zealand v. 00l growers until they have placed the position before the institutions which they represent. Expressing their purely individual views, they said that th<- experience of the meat control in New Zealu'iitl showed that there was nothing to fear from the issue of export licenses, which had worked well in their Dominion. The question involved such insuperable difficulties that thc wool growers iu Australia would be well adxiscd to consider the advisability of forming some such organisation as had been proposed, c»n sound business lines. Failing some scheme being evolved as the result of the ALclbourne conference, the matter would j be automatically removed from the con- | dit ions of sound business to that of pol itical action, which was not wanted. They stressed the fact that such a scheme would be specially beneficial to the small sheep owners, and they emphasised tho fact that the control of meat in New Zealand had kept the prices stable over a whole year on a level line which was close to the highest prices offered. The effect of exj»ort control, he said, was the stabilisation ot prices and also of land values, of sheep values and of the finances of the G vernment.
