NEW PARTY

NATIONAL LIBERALS. AUCKLAND, June 25. There was an attendance of 300 people al the Town Hall, when it was decided to form a National Liberal Party of New’ Zealand. Mr C. 11. Furness presided. there was considerable criticism of both the Reform and Liberal parties, and when a resolution proposing the formation of a new party was put to {ihe meeting it was carried w'ith only j about twelve dissentients. . The resolution was moved by Mr R. I*. Hornblow, w'ho opposed fusion of thy Reform and Liberal parties, and said that the intention of the new party was not. to split the Liberals nf the Dominion, but to cement the various sections and demonstrate that the spirit of Liberalism was not dead. Their desire was to go back to thv good old Seddon days. The resolution was seconded by Mr M. J. Moynihan, of Hamilton, who explained Ihe policy of the party. Control of the party would remain in the hands of its supporters, and would not be seized by those elected to the House of Representatives. There was also provision for a pledge from the elected representatives, who in the event of finding that they could not continue to support the policy of the party, would resign. He complained that no on e knew where the present Liberal Party stood. A Voice: It is out in the middle of Ihe road. (Laughter). Air Hall Skelton, exhaustively examined the early days of land settlement in New Zealand, and had much to say about the shortcomings of Ihe Reform Party. The other speaker was Mr (’. E. Major, who said that he hail never i seen anything so satisfactory as the j policy outlined. j The resolution, which was then r ried, also set up a provisional Dominion Executive as follows: Messrs G. M. Fowlds, W. J. Jeffrey, R. E. Hornblow, 11. J. Moynihan, J. T. Parvin, and F. McGuire, with Mr R. C. Hocking as general secretary. 1 his
